LHSAA approves 2008 football schedules

The Louisiana High School Athletic Association recently approved all football schedules. This included all four Evangeline Parish schools that play football. Pine Prairie, Mamou, Sacred Heart and Ville Platte officially know who and where they will be playing during the upcoming season.

The Mamou Green Demons will face their second year of a grueling and tough schedule. The Demons, who return a lot of talent from last year’s team, will open the season with fellow Class 2A team Pickering. Then things get really tough when they travel to New Orleans to face O.P. Walker and the Class 3A defending state champion Parkview Baptist in week three. The Demons take on Port Barre at home to open up district in week five. The Demons are hoping to make the playoffs again this year.

The Sacred Heart Trojans are looking to keep things going in 2008 like they left off in 2007. They won their last game of the season and look to defeat the St. Edmund Blue Jays in week one in 2008. In week four, the Trojans take on fellow Evangeline Parish rival, Basile, before beginning their district schedule. The annual Tee Cotton Bowl will mark the beginning of district for the Trojans. Sacred Heart will be aiming to regain the Tee Cotton Cup. The boys in blue and gold have their work cut out for them in weeks seven through nine when they battle Westminster, Mamou and Port Barre in consecutive contests. The Trojans round out their regular season with a trip to Pine Prairie.

The Panthers of PPHS will continue with their search for that elusive first high school football victory. They open up with three straight contests against Class 1A schools. Week one will see the Panthers host LaSalle in their newly renovated football stadium. In weeks two and three, the Panthers will face Gueydan and then come home to meet the Hurricanes of North Central High School. The Panthers will meet the Bulldogs of Ville Platte High to begin District 6-2A competition.

The boys in orange black get a break from district in week nine. They travel to Northwood Lena to meet the Class 1A Gators. The collision between the two teams last season featured overtime action. The Panthers finish the regular season with a home match against Sacred Heart.

The Co-Defending District 6-2A Champs, Ville Platte High, start the season off with a tough match at home. The Class 3A Rayne Wolves will make the trip. After taking on Class 1A Oberlin in week two, look for week three’s match-up with Oakdale to be a good one. The Dogs open up district with a clash against Pine Prairie in week four. Look for weeks eight through 10 to really test the Dogs when they battle Westminster, Mamou and Port Barre.
