Defending State Champions set for title run

After winning the 2007 Dixie Youth Baseball State Championship in the nine-year-old division, the Ville Platte All-Stars are poised to make another run in 2008. This year’s team features new players and a new head coach in Cane Thomas.

The Ville Platte boys’ run begins this weekend in Rosepine. Three teams will go head-to-head to determine the seeding of the District Seven Bracket. The District Seven Tournament will be held in Ville Platte during the final weekend of June.

The weekend’s diamond action begins Saturday. Ville Platte will take on the Oakdale All-Stars at 1 p.m. Later that evening, Ville Platte and the All-Stars of Vernon Parish will collide.

On Sunday, the teams will do it all again. Ville Platte and Oakdale meet at 1 p.m. At 5 p.m., the VP boys will battle the Vernon Parish boys again.

If there is a tie after Sunday, the teams will meet Monday evening in Rosepine.

Look for the District Seven Bracket to be released in next Thursday’s sports section
