MY VIEW 6.22.08

I hope everyone has been watching the third season of the HGTV Design Star competition that I spoke of a couple of weeks ago.

For the last two Sundays I have been glued to my TV set at exactly 8 p.m., not wanting to missed a minute of the action.

Well, as you already know, one of our own Louisiana natives, Dwayne Paul DeRouen of Lafayette, also known as D-Paul, was one of the nine finalist chosen for this years show. I guess you can say, I kind of let the cat out of the bag before the show actually aired, oops!

Anyway, D-Paul along with the other eight finalists selected were given their first design challenge to tackle. They were very surprised, to say the least, when they arrived at the specific location.

The nine contestants were made to believe that they had to build a complete house in one week. Most of them were a little distraught to learn of the living conditions they were to endure for seven days.

They were told that they had to sleep on cots under the stars by night and be home designers by day. Talk about turning up the heat on things, but in the end they were told it was just a joke. I know they must have felt so relieved to hear that news.

They were then loaded onto a boat and brought down the lake to a beautiful lake house.

On the second episode, they were separated into groups to decorate all the rooms of the lake house in 31 hours. And this is where the drama starts.

They really had their work cut out for them. From choosing the paint colors, to deciding on the right decor and furniture to make their designs scream out style.

But first they must learn to just get alone with one another. Things will come together easier if they work as a team and not as individual competitors.

In my opinion, the bickering between Tracee and her teammates is a bit immature. And the way she put the blame off on her team when the judges made negative comments about the decor in their room is so unprofessional on her part.

In the end, the judges had to make a decision on who would be the first to be eliminated from the show. And if you were watching you know that Scottie Miller of Charlotte, N.C. was the first to have his show cancelled. So that means our D-Paul is still in the running.

Good job D-Paul, keep-up the good work.
