BURNEL FUSELIER
July 19, 1924 - June 25, 2008
Funeral services were held for Burnel Fuselier, 82, of Ville Platte, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Ville Platte at 11 a.m., Saturday, June 27. Burial followed in the Evangeline Memorial Cemetery.
Mr. Fuselier died at 12:20 p.m., Wednesday, June 25, 2008, at Ville Platte Medical Center. He was a retired supervisor for the State Highway Department, he served in WWII, and he was a past member of the VFW. He was a loving husband, father and grandfather.
Survivors include his wife, Bertha Deville Fuselier of Ville Platte; one son, Stanley Joseph Fuselier of Ville Platte; one daughter, Sherril Fuselier Fontenot and her husband, Wendell James, of Ville Platte; one son-in-law, Howard Deshotel of Ville Platte; two brothers, Claude Fuselier of Lake Charles and Huby Fuselier of Kaplan; one sister, Bertha Soileau of Lake Charles; four grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Addie and Corrine Morein Fuselier; one daughter, Judy Deshotel; two brothers; and three sisters.
Father Gene Tremie officiated.

BURNEL YOUNG
MAMOU - Funeral services will be held for Burnel Young, 86, of Mamou at St. Ann’s Catholic Church in Mamou at 2 p.m., today, June 29. Burial will follow in the New St. Ann’s Cemetery.
Mr. Young died Thursday, June 26, 2008, at Savoy Medical Center. He was raised on a farm outside Mamou. He later studied agriculture at the University of Louisiana at Lafayette, then called Southwestern Louisiana Institute (SLI). His studies were interrupted by his service in World War II as a gunner in the European Theater. He flew 30 missions over Germany.
On returning from the war, Mr. Young completed his college studies and married his wife, Sylvia, of 63 years. They raised three daughters and a son. They owned and operated Young’s Grocery Store where Mr. Young continued to work until he became ill.
He was a hardworking man who loved vegetable gardening. His service to his country in the Great War was a point of great pride to him. He had recently taken an Honor Air Charter Flight with other veterans to see the World War II Monument in Washington, D.C. and had returned with a renewed sense of the contribution he had made to his country and the world.
Mr. Young died peacefully with his wife by his side.
Survivors include his wife of 63 years, Silvia (Tubre) Young of Mamou; one son, Bill Young and wife, Erica, of Lafayette; three daughters, Deedy Hays and husband, Bill, of Lafayette, Babs Kearney and husband, Tom, of Covington, and Suzy Rogers and husband, Dave, of Houston, Texas; six grandchildren, Beth Provosty and husband, Josh, Kelsey Bryant and husband, Don, Courtney Kearney, Avery Young, Sydney Young and Lily Hays; two great-grandchildren, Ian Provosty and Gavin Bryant.
Father Bob Courville will officiate.

JOHN MICHAEL ‘MIKE’ LANDRY
Memorial services will be held for John Michael “Mike “ Landry, 59, of Ville Platte at LaVille Funeral Home at 2 p.m., Monday, June 30.
Landry died Saturday, June 28, 2008, at his residence. Mr. Landry is a veteran of the United States Air Force and is a retired police officer with the Lafayette City Police Department.
Survivors include his daughter, Michelle Fontenot of Pine Prairie; a brother Kevin Landry of Butte LaRose; his sister, Ann Landry Ardoin of Carencro; and three grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Coach R.P. Landry and Bernadette Fontenot Landry, and a brother, L.P. Landry.
