Agnes P. Mire
CROWLEY- Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Monday, June 30, 2008 at the Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church for Agnes Primeaux Mire, 81, who died on June 28, 2008 at 4:25 a.m. at the American Legion Hospital. The Rev. Matthew Higginbotham will be celebrant of the Mass and conduct the funeral services.
Mrs. Mire was a descendant of the Primeauxs that arrived in Louisiana from Canada in the 1700’s. She was the daughter of the late Dulva Primeaux and the former Arthemise Hanks. Mrs. Mire was born March 6, 1927 in Acadia Parish. She resided in Crowley since 1957.
Mrs. Mire was known for her heart of gold, soft spoken words, her generosity and her genuine love for family and friends. Her love of life and her strong belief in God, along with the power of the rosary, helped her through many difficult times until her battle with Alzheimer’s took her and placed her in the hands of God. She will be sadly missed.
Survivors include her husband of 63 years, Preston A. Mire of Crowley, her two daughters, Genevieve M. Johnson and her husband Charles, and Mona and her husband Troy, all of Crowley; three sons, Nolan Mire and Bradley Mire, both of Crowley, and Buford Mire and his wife, Ruby of Ball, LA. 18 grandchildren: Michelle M. Landry, Chad Mire, Traci M. Simon, Rhonda M. Rini, Troy Mire, Rachelle M. Roy, Preston Mire II, James Johnson, Rachel Johnson, Annette J. Seaux, Nicole M. Hollier, Tiffany Mire, Colt Mire, Megan Mire, Mesha Mire, Stacy P. Guidry, Celeste Prudhomme and Cherie Prudhomme and 28 great-grandchildren. Additionally, she is survived by four sisters, Orillia Richard of Lyons Point, Mercedes Mire of Crowley, Olivia Evans of Moss Bluff and Rose Guidry of Jennings, and one brother, John Primeaux of Crowley.
She was preceded in death by her parents; four brothers, Aurelien, Valerien, Adam, and Dulva Paul Primeaux; two sisters, Olivia Bourque and Ida Primeaux.
Musical selections of Amazing Grace, Be Not Afraid, The Old Rugged Cross, and Just a Closer Walk with Thee performed by Celeste Prudhomme. The readers will be Michelle M. Landry and Traci M. Simon.
Pallbearers will include Chad, Troy, Preston II and Colt Mire, James Johnson, and Gregory Guidry. Honorary pallbearer will be John Primeaux.
Visitation began on Saturday, June 28 and will continue until Monday, June 30 when the procession will depart for the church. The recital of the rosary will be Sunday, June 29 at 7 p.m. The rite of committal will take place in the Abshire Cemetary.
The family would like to thank Dr. Mulraj Katira and his staff, Southwind Rehabilitation Center and American Legion Hospital for the many years of loving care shown Mrs. Mire.
