Zaunbrecher named state FB Queen

NEW ORLEANS – The Louisiana Farm Bureau held their 86th annual meeting in New Orleans this past weekend. This year’s gathering will be remembered as having a distinct Acadia Parish feel.

The Acadia Parish Farm Bureau won the President’s Award. The award is the highest honor given during the farm group’s annual meeting.

“Our board and women’s committee keeps very active and we promote our programs all year long,” said Cathy Habetz. “We’ve definitely earned this award and I couldn’t be more proud.”

Farm Bureau President Ronnie Anderson presented the award to Acadia Parish President Linus Regan.

“I may have accepted it, but this is for all those in Acadia Parish who have worked so hard to promote agriculture,” Regan said. “All of our parish membership deserves this trophy.”

The President’s Trophy recognizes outstanding contributions to state agriculture by the volunteer leadership and farmer and rancher members. The parish was among 61 parish Farm Bureaus recognized for work promoting agriculture.

In addition to the President’s Trophy, Crowley native Anna Brittany Zaunbrecher was crowned the Louisiana Farm Bureau Queen at the event. Anna competed against 25 other Louisiana Farm Bureau queens.

Anna, 19, is the daughter of Roy and Tammy Zaunbrecher Reppond of Crowley, and Billy and Jessica Zaunbrecher of Deridder. She is the granddaughter of Leonard and Charlotte Zaunbrecher of Crowley and Helen and the late Louis Zaunbrecher of Bell City.

She is currently attending the University of Louisiana at Monroe and is majoring in pharmacy. While attending Iota High School, Anna received many honors such as the Scottish Rite award.

Anna claims that coming from generations of Farm Bureau members and a farming family, helped her to understand the importance of agriculture in our state as well as other parts of the world. She says she plans to travel the state representing Louisiana’s farmers and ranchers to the very best of her ability.

“Acadia Parish has had a Farm Bureau Queen and has won the President’s Trophy before but never in the same year,” said Habetz.

Cathy Habetz, Chairman of the Ag in the Classroom, accepted the State Ag in the Class Award on behalf of her parish committee. Accepting the Outstanding Women’s Committee Award was Acadia Parish Women’s Chairman Sylvia Habetz.

Tiffany Thibodeaux of Crowley represented Acadia Parish in the event’s talent contest.
