DENEGE LAFLEUR STELLY
LEBEAU - Funeral services were held for Denege Lafleur Stelly, 94, of Washington, at the Melancon Funeral Home Chapel in Opelousas Monday, July 14. Burial followed in the Stelly Cemetery in LeBeau.
A native of Grand Prairie, Ms. Stelly died at 11:15 p.m., Friday, July 11, 2008, at Opelousas General Hospital following a short illness. She was affectionately known as the “Queen of LeBeau.” After her marriage to Eddie Stelly, she worked at the family business, Stelly’s, in LeBeau. She loved her family and was a wonderful mother, grandmother and friend. She had a strong faith in God, was a devout Catholic and a member of Immaculate Conception Church in LeBeau and St. Peter’s Church in Morrow. Stelly’s life was a ministry, helping neighbors and friends in her younger days, and devoting her life to her family during these last years. Until her time of death, she contributed much, entertaining all with wisdom and wit. She thrived on the attention given by a constant procession of her children and grandchildren. She was greatly blessed to have daughter, Denise, and son-in-law, Bobby, to care for her the past six years.
Survivors include two sons, Eddie Ray Stelly and his wife, Wanda, and Joel Stelly and his wife, Patricia, all of LeBeau; five daughters, Karen Pilgreen and her husband, Mike, and Denise Darbonne and her husband, Bobby, all of LeBeau, Janice Cheek and her husband, Billy, of Lecompte, Marcella Ortego and her husband, Craig, of Maurepas and Elizabeth Stelly Regard of Shreveport; one brother, Paul Lafleur and his wife, Ruby, of Gonzales; one sister, Betty Zachariah of Baton Rouge; 22 grandchildren; and 39 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Eddie Stelly; her parents, Rene Todd Lafleur and the former Belzire Ardoin; and three brothers, Roland J. Lafleur, Ray Lafleur and Bertrand Lafleur; her grandson, Hunter Regard; and her great-granddaughter, Sadie Albarez.
Pall bearers were Travis Stelly, Chris Pilgreen, Robbie Darbonne, Jeremy Ortego, Shane Cheek, Cheyenne Stelly and Eric Regard. Honorary pall bearers were Chad Pilgreen, Chase Pilgreen, Phillip Darbonne, Brady Ortego, Spencer Stelly and Luke Regard.
The family wishes to express their appreciation to the staff of St. Landry Homecare for their excellent care through the years, Opelousas General Hospital third floor staff, and LA Hospice and Palliative Care. In lieu of flowers, it is the family’s wish to have donations sent to St. Jude’s Hospital.

PRUDENCE DAIRE
July 3, 1926 - July 12, 2008
Funeral services were held for Prudence Daire, 82, of Ville Platte, the former Prudence Ortego, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Ville Platte at 10 a.m., Monday, July 14. Burial followed in the Evangeline Memorial Park Cemetery.
Ms. Daire died Saturday, July 12, 2008, at Eunice Manor Nursing Home.
Survivors include one son, John Carroll Daire of Ville Platte; one daughter, Mrs. Thomas (Pam) Maggio of Ville Platte; and three grandchildren, Brian, Wendy and Matthew Maggio.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Raphael J. Daire; her parents, Hammy and Elda Ortego; three sisters, Numa (Eleaner) Morein, Ruby Crane and Merline Doughton; and two brothers, Frank Ortego and Jimmy Ortego.

JOSEPH RAY MONIER
October 16, 1944 - July 15, 2008
Funeral services will be held for Joseph Ray Monier, 63, of Ville Platte, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Ville Platte at 1 p.m., today, July 17. Burial will follow in the Te Mamou Cemetery.
A retired postal supervisor, Mr. Monier died Tuesday, July 15, 2008, at his residence. He was a loving husband, father and brother.
Survivors include his wife, Sandra F. Monier of Ville Platte; one son, Dr. Charles S. Monier and his wife, Kristine, of Ville Platte; one daughter, Katra M. Morrison and her fiancé, Bryan Brignac, of Broussard; one sister, Ethlyn M. Coreil of Ville Platte; and six grandchildren, Kaitlyn Holmes, Jenifer Monier, Dori Todd Monier, Michael Monier, Logan Morrison and Alyssa Brignac.
He was preceded in death by one son, Jude Mitchell Todd Monier; his parents, Darcenus and Lois G. Monier; and one brother, Sylvan Monier.

JULIAN ‘JAY’ GREGORIE
September 12, 1935 - July 14, 2008
MAMOU - Funeral services will be held for Julian “Jay” Gregorie, 72, of Mamou, at the Rush Funeral Home Chapel in Pine Prairie at 10 a.m., today, July 17. Burial will follow in the Beiber Cemetery in Mamou.
Mr. Gregorie died Monday, July 14, 2008, at his residence with his loving family near his side.
Survivors include four sons, Robert Hammon of Mamou, Donny Gregorie of California, Ricky Gregorie of Iowa and Rocky Gregorie of Lake Charles; four daughters, Debbie Gregorie of California, Lori Martin and Mary Jeffers, both of Texas, and Traci Richard of Mamou; one brother, Gary Moore of California; one sister, Adele Seabourn of Texas; and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Peggy Gregorie; one daughter, Donna Bertrand; and one granddaughter, Phoebe Bertrand.
