JOSEPH ‘BURKE’ REED
OPELOUSAS - Funeral services will be held for Joseph “Burke” Reed, 81, of Opelousas, at St. Landry Catholic Church in Opelousas at 2:30 p.m., today, July 24. Burial will follow in Bellevue Memorial Park.
Mr. Reed died Monday, July 21, 2008, at Opelousas General Health Systems. He was a retired salesman after 48 years with Dimmick Auto Supply Company in Opelousas. Following graduation from A.I.C. High School, he enlisted in the U.S. Navy during World War II. He served aboard the U.S.S. Harry Lee, APA – 10, an assault transport, which took part in combat operations in the Pacific at Iwo Jima, the Philippines and New Caledonia. Reed was a member of the VFW, WOW and American Legion in Washington. He was an avid hunter and fisherman.
He was a devoted and loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather and will be sadly missed by all who knew him and loved him.
Survivors include his loving wife, Frances R. Reed of Opelousas; three sons, Rob Reed and his wife, Alicia Ryder Reed, of Grand Prairie, Richard ‘Dickie’ Reed and his wife, Suzanne Dartez Reed, of Lafayette and Kenny Reed and his wife, Bertha Budden Reed, of Opelousas; one daughter, Patsy Reed Fontenot and her husband, Bill, of Grand Prairie; one sister, Peggy Reed Buller and her husband, William, of Ville Platte; eight grandchildren, Ryan Reed, Chris Reed, Kevin Reed, Natalie Dugas, Mia F. Hundley, Jared Fontenot, Lori F. Trahan and Luke Reed; and two great-grandchildren, Parker Reed and Brodie Dugas.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Dominique and Vivian Fontenot Reed.
Readers will be Mia Hundley and William Buller.
Presenters will be Chris Reed, Lori Trahan and Natalie Dugas.
Musical selections will be provided by Sharee Hunter.
Pall bearers will be Ryan Reed, Jared Fontenot, Kevin Reed, Steven Hundley, Bill Buller and David Richard.
Msgr. Robert Romero will officiate.

Funeral services were held for Martha Ann Lewis, 36, of Ville Platte, at Antioch Baptist Church in Ville Platte at 11 a.m., Wednesday, July 23. Burial followed in the church cemetery.

ELLA D. ‘LOLO’ MYLES
August 29, 1919 - July 18, 2008
Funeral services will be held for Ella D. “Lolo” Myles, 88, of Sulphur, at Greater Mount Pleasant Baptist Church in Ville Platte at 11 a.m., Saturday, July 26. Burial will follow in the Pleasant Rest Memorial Gardens.
Ms. Myles died Friday, July 18, 2008, at Lake Charles Memorial Hospital.
Survivors include one daughter, Cathy P. Green of Los Angeles, California; one son, Renus Toussaint of Sulphur; one sister, Allee Frank of Los Angeles, California; eight grandchildren; and a host of great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.
