Donald Arcade Manuel

Funeral services were held for Donald Arcade Manuel, 89, of Ville Platte, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Ville Platte at 1:30 p.m., Wednesday, April 6. Burial followed in the Sacred Heart Mausoleum.
Mr. Manuel died Tuesday, April 5, 2016, at his residence. He served in World War II as a member of the United States Army; and in his spare time, he enjoyed wood-working, fishing and spending time with his wife, children, grandchildren and friends. In 1971, he was the largest cotton farmer in Evangeline Parish and was also awarded the title of Colonel Cotton that year.
Survivors include his wife, Germaine Guillory Manuel of Ville Platte; five sons, Charles Manuel and his wife, Diane, Patrick Manuel and his wife, Deborah, Carlton Manuel and his wife, Pamela, Peter Manuel and his wife, Jenny, and Michael Manuel and his wife, Angela, all of Ville Platte; eight daughters, June Hamlin and her husband, Ard, Nancy Pitre, Janice Vidrine and her husband, Bradley, and Rita Soileau and her husband, Nick, all of Ville Platte, Anna Fontenot and her husband, Randy, of Hemphill, Texas, Mary Fontenot and her husband, Eddie, of Winnsboro, Texas, Rose Fontenot and her husband, Todd, of Grand Prairie and Judy Granger and her husband, Chris, of Lafayette; and two step-sisters, Zola McGee Doise of California and Joy McGee of Strickland, Virginia. Also left behind to cherish his memory are his 38 grandchildren and 45 great-grandchildren.
He was proceeded in death by his parents, Arcade Manuel and Olina Landreneau Manuel; his step-father, Willie McGee; three brothers, Irving Manuel, Albany “Benny” Manuel and Hubert Manuel; three sisters, Bernice Manuel Erwin, Nazel Manuel Guillory and Rosa Lou Manuel Doucet; two step-brothers, Axion McGee and Lionel McGee; one step-sister, Lillian McGee Young; one grandchild, Brandon W. Vidrine; and one great-grandchild, Sydney D. Soileau.
Father Tom Voorhies officiated.
