Herman Joseph Guillory Sr.

MAMOU - Funeral services will be held for Herman Joseph Guillory Sr., 89, of Mamou, at St. Ann’s Catholic Church in Mamou at 2 p.m., Thursday, March 19. Burial will follow in the New St. Ann’s Cemetery.
A loving husband, father, brother, grandfather and friend, Mr. Guillory died Tuesday, March 17, 2015. Born to parents Allen and Allie Guillory on August 15, 1925, in Mamou, Herman resided there until he met and married the love of his life, Mary Vernella Devillier Guillory, in September 1943. They went on to have four children, four grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. He proudly served his country as a tail gunner with the 15th Air Force division over Europe in World War II. He will be remembered as a gentle soul who showed fairness, kindness and consideration to everyone he encountered. His love of woodworking has left his loved ones with fond memories and amazing reminders of his talent for years to come.
Survivors include his wife of 72 years, Mary Vernella Devillier Guillory of Mamou; one sister, Allie Ann Reed and her husband, Mac, of New Iberia; his children, Herman Joseph Guillory Jr. and his wife, Del, of Lafayette and David Guillory, Janet Guillory Miller and her fiance’, Gary Wicke, and Danny and Regina Guillory, all of Lake Charles; four grandchildren, Kevin Guillory and his wife, Lori, of New Iberia, Craig Guillory and his wife, Melissa, of Dallas, Texas, Kristi Guillory Munzing and her husband, Michael, of Lafayette and Ashley Miller of Lake Charles. He also leaves behind to cherish his memory a host of much loved friends and neighbors.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Allen and Allie Guillory; one sister, Winnie Soileau; and one brother, Hersey Guillory.
The Guillory family would like to express their sincere appreciation to the physicians and staff at Harbor Hospice of Lake Charles. Words cannot express our overwhelming gratitude for the loving care that our husband, father and grandfather received in his final days.
At the request of the Guillory family, a visitation will be held Thursday, March 19, at 12 noon until time of services. A rosary will be recited in Mr. Guillory’s honor at 2 p.m.
Father Alphonse Thainese will officiate.
