Hubert “Bert” Bertrand

YUCAIPA, California - Graveside funeral services will be held for Hubert “Bert” Bertrand, 87, of Yucaipa, California, at the Riverside National Cemetery in Riverside, California, at 11 a.m., Friday, November 6. A memorial service will be held at the Weaver Mortuary in Beaumont, California, at 10 a.m., Saturday, November 7.
Mr. Bertrand died October 26, 2015, at the Jerry L. Pettis Veterans Administration Hospital in Loma Linda, California.
He was born August 9, 1928, in Lafayette to Frank and Lucille Bertrand. His family moved to Mamou, where he attended school until the age of 16. He then joined the Merchant Marines. During a leave home, he was drafted into the Air Corp, serving in World War II and for the duration of the Korean War (Pacific Theatre).
He was a life member of the Sons of the American Legion - 83 years; American Legion - 60 years; 40 et 8 - 57 years; VFW - 52 years and Past Commanders - 60 years. He has most recently been a dedicated member of the American Legion Post 428 in Banning, California. He held many positions in these groups, from commander to national committee member. He was also a volunteer at Jerry L. Pettis VA, as well as another VA, making it a total of 10,005 hours of service. He received many awards for his outstanding service, assistance and dedication to helping our veterans and friends.
He was a life member of the International Brotherhood of Painters and Trades since 1991. He had been a paint contractor, manager of 86 apartments, manager of Villa Home Park in Westminster, California, and manager of the Eldorado Palm Mobile Home Estates in Yucaipa, California.
Survivors include his wife, Patricia Bertrand of Yucaipa, California; one daughter, Valerie Bourbonnais of Colorado Springs, Colorado; one daughter-in-law, Betty Bertrand of Texarkana, Texas; granddaughter Tracy (Jasper) Prince of Riverside, California; three sisters, Emma (Lucius) LaDoux and Edna Fuselier, both of Eunice, and Ella Pearl of Mamou. He is also survived by many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, Rose; and one son, Robert.
Visitation will be held from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m., today, November 5, at the Weaver Mortuary in Beaumont, California.
Weaver Mortuary of Beaumont, California, will be in charge of arrangements.
