Joseph Warren Fontenot
November 26, 1947 - January 3, 2016
A military memorial service will be held for Joseph Warren Fontenot, 68, of Ville Platte, at a later date. He donated his body to science to aid in medical research.
Mr. Fontenot died Sunday, January 3, 2016. He retired from J.D. Bank (formerly Guaranty Bank) in 2013.
Sergeant Fontenot served in the US Army from May 1969 to May 1971. He served in the First Infantry Division (The Big Red One), 11 Bravo, in Vietnam. His post was in the Delta Region, Mai Kong, and he received the Purple Heart. He always said that the military was the best two years of his life. He admired General George Patton and watched the movie “Patton” many times. He was also a huge fan of Elvis Presley, John Wayne, the Wild West, Harley Hogs, Rocky Balboa, Star Trek, and The Twilight Zone.
Survivors include his wife of 45 years, Cheryl Fontenot of Plaisance; one son, Kirk Fontenot of Ville Platte; one daughter, Kelia Bingham of Ville Platte; one brother, Cody Fontenot of Ville Platte; and one sister, Patsy Pitre of Ville Platte.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Berthmance and Audrey Fontenot; and one son, Matthew Fontenot.
