Rosa Lynn Soileau Holmes

Funeral services were held for Rosa Lynn Soileau Holmes, 71, of Ville Platte, at Our Lady Queen of All Saints Catholic Church in Ville Platte at 2 p.m., Monday, July 21. Burial followed in the Evangeline Memorial Mausoleum.
A devoted wife, mother, grandmother and sister, Mrs. Holmes died Friday, July 18, 2014, at St. Joseph Hospice “Carpenter House” in Baton Rouge. She was a life-long educator, as well as a businesswoman. In the 1970’s, she owned and operated Tiny Tot College, a private kindergarten, and in the 1980’s, she owned and operated a bookstore, the Wise Owl. Her hobbies included gardening, cake decorating, traveling and bird watching. But her passion was always her beloved family.
Survivors include her husband, Oliver Wendell “Buddy” Holmes Jr. of Ville Platte; and their children, Madge H. Fontenot and her husband, Keith, of Nederland, Texas, Deedra H. LaPlace and her husband, Lance, Wendell Holmes and Boyd Holmes and his wife, Sandra, all of Baton Rouge, and Lowell Holmes of Las Vegas, Nevada. Her memory will be forever cherished by her grandchildren, Ryan Fontenot, Amber Oleksy and her husband, Tommy, Sarah Fox and her husband, Phillip, Sterling Holmes, Hartman Holmes, London Holmes, Ashton Holmes, Arrington Holmes, Camden Holmes, Gavin LaPlace, Brooks LaPlace; and her precious great-grandchild, Crockett Oleksy. She cherished every moment she was able to spend with them; they were truly the light of her life and her greatest source of pride. She also leaves behind a sister, Theresa S. Reed and her husband, Dr. Dale Reed, of Ville Platte. She was blessed with a host of nieces and nephews and countless dear friends, all of whom considered themselves lucky to have shared a connection with such a special individual. She will be deeply missed by many.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Clarence and Marie Vidrine Soileau.
The family would like to send their sincere and heartfelt gratitude to Dr. John Rainey and Dr. Eduardo Alvarez and their staffs, as well as Dr. Brady Guillory and his staff at St. Joseph’s Hospice in Baton Rouge, for their extraordinary compassion and care.
