Wade Hampton “Hamp” Reed Jr.

Funeral services were held for Wade Hampton “Hamp” Reed Jr., 92, of Ville Platte, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Ville Platte at 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, July 22. Burial followed in the Evangeline Memorial Park Cemetery.
A loving husband, father, grandfather and friend, Mr. Reed died Monday, July 20, 2015, at his residence. He served during WWII in the Philippines as a United States Coast Guard veteran and was instrumental in the construction and fabrication of the Higgins Boats in New Orleans for WWII. Mr. Reed was also the proud owner and operator of Hampton Reed’s Garage from 1958 until 1986, a retired fire chief with 25 years of service with the Ville Platte Fire Department and a member of the Knights of Columbus with Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church.
Survivors include his loving wife of 23 years, Jean Pitre Reed of Ville Platte; five sons, David Reed and his fiancé, Cynthia LeBlanc, of Broussard, Dennis Reed of Ville Platte, Dale Reed and his wife, Carla, of Bunkie, Richard Reed and his wife, Cindy, of Youngsville and Stephen Reed of Ville Platte; one step-son, Jody Ortego of Ville Platte; one daughter, Karen Doumit and her husband, Carl, of Columbus, Mississippi; and two step-daughters, Ann Greene and her husband, Bobby, of Lafayette and Kay Fontenot and her husband, Dess, of Ville Platte. Also left behind to cherish his memory are his 20 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Lou Ellen “Sis” Reed; his parents, Wade Reed Sr. and Elta Guillory Reed; two brothers, James Reed and Clinton Reed; two sisters, Margaret Fontenot and Alice Marcantel; and one great-grandson, Seth Pellegrin.
Father Tom Voorhies officiated.
