Wallace “Jim” Thompson

MAMOU - Funeral services will be held for Wallace “Jim” Thompson, 83, of Mamou, at the Ardoin’s Funeral Home Chapel in Mamou at 10 a.m., Saturday, March 22. Burial will follow in the Reed Cemetery.
Mr. Thompson died Wednesday, March 19, at Savoy Care Center in Mamou. He was a cotton and rice farmer. He volunteered as a school bus driver in Evangeline Parish schools. He also was a bartender who loved telling stories and loved to joke. He enjoyed going to the casino; and most of all he, loved his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Survivors include one daughter, Wanda Derouen and her husband, Ralph, of Lake Charles; two grandchildren, Keith Derouen of Lake Charles and Stacy Canter and her husband, Randall, of Holmwood; and four great-grandchildren, Hannah, Kandace, Victoria and Gracie.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Tanzy and Sedia McCauley Thompson; one great-granddaughter, Alex; two sisters, Lena Devillier and Dorothy Vidrine Manuel; and two brothers in-law, Terry Vidrine and Lenus “Chalk” Devillier.
