Information received by the Mamou Police Department from an anonymous source led to the arrest of one individual for the cultivation of marijuana.

Detective Todd Ortis said the anonymous source claimed Charles Ray Johnson Jr., 24, 317 South St., Mamou, was growing marijuana in his home. Ortis said officers went to the residence and spoke to Johnson about the information they received. Johnson, according to Ortis, voluntarily surrendered three small marijuana plants, which were being grown in pots with pepper plants.

Johnson was arrested without incident and transported to the Evangeline Parish Jail. His bond was set at $7,500 by 13th Judicial District Judge Thomas Fuselier.

Police Chief Greg Dupuis encourages all residents to contact the department regarding any suspicious or illegal activity. All calls will remain anonymous.
