Parish to train storm spotters

The St. Landry Parish Office of Homeland Security & Emergency Preparedness and the National Weather Service will provide free training to teach people to be storm spotters.

The parish is required to have trained spotters as part of the “Storm Ready” program.

Storm Ready communities are better prepared to save lives through better planning, education and awareness.

All ages are encouraged to attend the training at 3 p.m. on Wednesday, March 19, at the Public Services Building, 1065 Hwy. 749, Opelousas.

The training will last until 4:30 p.m., according to Lisa Vidrine, director of the parish OHSEP.
