Registrar gears up for Voter Education Week

CROWLEY – Early voting for the July 19 election began Saturday, July 5, continued on Monday, July 7, from 8:30 a.m. until 4:30 p.m., and will end Saturday, July 12.

On Saturday, 17 people participated in early voting, and, as of Monday afternoon, 60 people participated.

Voter Education Week will kick off on Monday, July 14 at the Acadia Parish Registrar of Voters office at 500 NE Parkerson Ave in Crowley, and will include special activities by Acadia Parish Registrar of Voters Billie J. Meyer and staff.

People are invited to drop by between 8:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. and check on their voter registration status, register to vote and familiarize themselves with voting machines.

Office staff will address such issues as voting’s importance and the need for poll commissioners.

Informational packets containing voter information, statistics, maps, election calendars and the like will be available.

Similar presentations will be held at locations throughout the parish.

Date and times include:

July 14, 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Fezzo’s Seafood and Steakhouse, 2111 North Cherokee Dr.

July 15, 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Church Point City Hall.

July 16, 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Rayne City Hall.

Meyer said voter information and assistance is available at the registrar’s office year-round, not just during Voter Education Week.
