Relay for Life to take place Friday in Rayne

RAYNE – The American Cancer Society’s Relay for Life will be held on Friday, April 18 at the fair grounds in Rayne, starting at 6 p.m.

The Survivor Lap will begin at 6:20 p.m. A second lap will take place for family and caregivers.

Kira Viator and Bayou Beat will crank up the Cajun music at 6:30 p.m.

The introduction of pageant winners will take place at 7:45 p.m., and the Sweet Bake Off participated in by the teams will start at 8 p.m.

The first group of Oasis Belly Dancers will being performing at 8 p.m., followed by a second group at 8:30 p.m.

The Luminary Ceremony will begin at 9 p.m., followed by music from the band Jaenke Train at 9:30 p.m.

The Barbecue Cookoff participated in by the teams will take place at 10:30 p.m.

This year’s Relay will wrap up with a closing ceremony at 5 a.m.

This year’s Relay teams are Estherwood Elementary, who will be selling nachos, popcorn, homemade lemonade and snacks; Always on Top, who will be selling crawfish ettoufee, cold drinks, sweets and providing access to an Ebox; Mama’s Angels, who will be selling popcorn; Eta Kappa, who will be selling French fries; Survivor-A-Bear, who will be selling tamales, sausage po-boys, cold drinks, providing games such as roulette wheel, pick-a-duck, baseball toss and egg find, and raffling a wooden swing and stand, a wooden indoor trash can and at least two more items; African Americans Rising to the Top, who will be selling cold drinks, barbecue hamburgers and sweets; The Handy Crew, who will be selling cracklins, jambalaya and cold drinks; Acadia Women’s Health, who will be selling candles, breast cancer huggies, bracelets and key chains; Egan Elementary, who will be selling cold drinks and sweets; and Moma’s Family, who will be selling jambalaya, chicken fett., and tamales.
