Retirement dinner held in honor of local educator

On Friday, May 30, the Mission and Pastor’s Aid auxiliaries of Greater Mt. Zion Baptist Church hosted a retirement dinner for local educator, Annie Matthews.

The celebration was in recognition of her thirty-two years of dedicated service to the teaching profession.

Mrs. Matthews began her teaching career in 1974 at Clinton High School in Clinton, Louisiana.

Pausing briefly to work as a secretary in Galveston, she resumed her teaching career in 1977.

In 1978, she transferred to the Louisiana Technical College System where she taught in the Business Department for the next thirty years.

During this time, she was named Business Department Head, a position she retained until her retirement.

Mrs. Matthews is the wife of Reverend Keith N. Matthews, a local pastor and author. She is also the mother of Charles Cory and Kedra Lynn.

She currently serves in Greater Mt. Zion/Ambassador Ministries, Inc. as an Evangelist and Head of the Women’s Department.

Mrs. Matthews’ future plans include an expansion of ministerial duties and travel within her church..
