Rosepine eliminates Sacred Heart again

The Sacred Heart Lady Trojans had revenge on their minds Saturday, when the Rosepine Lady Eagles came to Ville Platte. In 2007, the Lady Eagles used a 3-0 victory to eliminate the Lady Trojans from the Class 2A playoffs. This season, the tables were turned a little bit. The Lady Trojans were playing the home team role. Unfortunately for the girls in blue and gold, the outcome would be similar to last year’s. Rosepine eliminated the Lady Trojans with a 1-0 victory.

Both teams went down in order in the first inning. In the top of the second inning, the Lady Eagles struck. Linzay Leger walked after fouling off lots of pitches from SHHS pitcher Logan Hebert. Ashley Austin came to the plate and cleared the pads with a triple to left center field. Leger crossed the plate and would later prove to be the only run needed. Hebert managed to retired the side after that, but the damage had been done.

The Lady Trojans struggled against Rosepine pitcher Christian Hamilton. However, they did have their chance to score. In the bottom of the third frame, Shelby Fontenot and Anne-Marie Fontenot were both hit by a pitch with no outs. After that point, Hamilton settled down and struck out the next three batters. She ended the game with 12 strikeouts, two walks and she scattered two hits.

The Lady Trojans got a run to third base in the bottom of the fifth inning. With two outs, Samantha Davenport reached base on an error and advanced all the way to third. Once again, Hamilton was able to retire the side and not give up a run for the SHHS girls. In the bottom of the seventh inning, Hebert reached base when the catcher dropped strike three. She advanced to second on a sacrifice bunt from Kelsey Enicke. On the ensuing play, Hebert tried to get to home after Hamilton threw out a runner at first. However, the first baseman was able to make the throw to home in time for the third out of the inning.

Sacred Heart got hits from Sarah Dupre and Laura Coreil in the contest. Logan Hebert went the distance. She fanned three batters, walked two and scattered two hits. They end the season as the runner-up in District 6-2A with an overall record of 16-8 on the year.
