Rotary celebrates 62nd Mardi Gras

St. Martinville — The Rotary Club of St. Martinville has announced that Miss Taylor Caitlyn Theriot will reign as queen of the 62nd annual Mardi Gras Ball, “The Durand Wedding,” scheduled for this Saturday, Jan. 26, at the new Cade Civic Center.

The identity of King Rotary LXII will be revealed during Saturday’s gala.

Miss Taylor is the 18-year-old daughter of Rotarian Pat and Jeri Theriot of St. Martinville.

She is a senior at Highland Baptist Christian School in New Iberia where she is president of the Student Council. She is also a member of the Beta Club, the Service Club and the varsity basketball team.

After graduation in May, she plans to attend the University of Louisiana at Lafayette and pursue a degree in nursing.

Rehearsal, Ball

A formal dress rehearsal, open to the public, will be held at 7 p.m. Friday at the Cade Civic Center. Admission will be $5 for children and $7 for adults.

Saturday’s pageant, which will feature a re-creation of the legendary Golden Spider Web Wedding of Charles Durand’s two daughters that took place at Pine and Oak Alley in the 1850s, will also begin at 7 p.m. A dance will follow with music by Sideshow.

Advance tickets ($25) and a limited number of reserved tables are still available and may be purchased at Pat Theriot’s State Farm Agency on South Main Street. Call 394-6006 for information.

All tickets must be purchased in advance; tickets will not be sold at the door Saturday evening. Pat Theriot’s office will be open for ticket sales on Saturday until 12:30 p.m.
