School Board honors athletes

CROWLEY – At Monday evenings meeting of the Acadia Parish School Board, the Iota High School girls were honored for the State Basketball Championship recently won. Many of the players on the team were there for the recognition.

“We are proud of what has happened at Iota over the last four years,” said Gibson Miller, addressing the board.

“These young ladies are very committed, very dedicated,” said Iota High Coach Stan Baggett. “They’ve had a remarkable run.”

Acadia Parish School Board President Roland Boudreaux expressed his admiration for the team.

“We’re so very proud of you,” he said.

The recently chosen Students of the Year for Acadia Parish were also recognized by the board, even though none could make it to the meeting.

Gabrielle Hebert of Evangeline Elementary, the daughter of David and Dawn Hebert, was recognized as the fifth grade Student of the Year.

Chelsea LeJeune of Richard Middle School, the daughter of Thomas and Kathy LeJeune, Sr. was recognized as the eighth grade Student of the Year.

Rosemary Twiddel, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Twiddel, was recognized as the twelfth grade student of the year.

In other business, the school board accepted the terms of a pipeline right-of-way agreement with Kinder Morgan Pipeline Company. The acreage for the right-of-way is between six and seven acres. The right-of-way is a little over a mile in length, and is located in the Evangeline area. The agreed-upon price for the right-of-way is $172, 750.

The next Acadia Parish School Board meeting will take place on May 5.
