Scott Edwards named outstanding coordinator

The Acadiana Resource Conservation and Development (RC&D) Council is proud to announce that its coordinator, Scott Edwards, received the award for Outstanding Coordinator of the Year. Edwards was chosen among coordinators across six states including Arkansas, Kansas, Louisiana, Missouri, Oklahoma and Texas. In the two-year time that Edwards has been in the Carencro RC&D office, he has initiated the Louisiana Native Plant Initiative (LNPI), Biomass Pilot Project, Coulee Baton Micro Watershed, and Sustainable Energy and Efficiency Demonstration (SEED) and Gueydan Prairie Project. The work of the council covers a nine-parish area including Acadia, Evangeline, Avoyelles, Iberia, St. Landry, Lafayette, St. Mary, St. Martin and Vermilion.

“Spanning the time between our natural resource needs today and the needs of future generations” was the theme of the 2008 conference in St. Louis, Missouri. Bryce Oates, director of business development of Dogwood Carbon Solutions, explained in during workshop how carbon credits could be use as a tool for conservation in your communities. Green Building, Wild Land-Urban Interface, Fire Wise in Louisiana, Switchgrass Demonstration, Hurricane Relief Tree Plantings, and Sweet Potato Storage Facility Project were the subjects of other workshops offered during the event.
