Former Trojan baseball player Caleb Soileau, son of Timmy and Kelly Soileau, will be taking his game to the next level, as he has committed to playing for the LSU-A Generals starting next season.
Soileau played center field for Sacred Heart and was named to the first team all-district and first team all-parish squads the past two years.
This past season, Soileau batted .319 on the year with two home runs and 13 RBI. Soileau’s range in the outfield was a huge plus for the Trojans, along with the fact that he was able to see action on the hill for Sacred Heart throughout the season.
Soileau was thrilled when the opportunity to continue playing the sport he loves came open.
“It has always been my dream to play baseball in college,” and elated Soileau said. “I know it will be a lot of hard work, but I am ready for the challenge. I have gotten a lot of encouragement from others who have had the experience of playing college ball, especially coach Cody Vidrine.”
Getting to play for LSU-A was something that came about only weeks after finishing his high school career.
“Right after the season, I got to participate in a tryout at LSU-A,” stated Soileau. “Coach Steve Adams from Abbeville knew the head coach at LSU-A (Brent Porche) and got my foot in the door. So I went try out and he (Porche) told me he was going to offer me a scholarship.”
One positive aspect of playing in Alexandria is the proximity of his home.
“It will be good for me to be so close to home so that my parents can come and see me play,” commented Soileau.
