Former Pine Praire native Julia Johnson recently took part in the Jr. PGA Championship Tournament held at the Miramont Country Club in Bryan, Texas.
The four day event began on Monday and ended this past Thursday. Johnson competed against 78 of the top junior golfers in the United States.
The event was played on a tough 6400 yard par 71 course, with high rough and hard and fast greens. To gain an understanding of how challenging the course actually was, only two players were able to shoot under par for the tournament.
Johnson began the Championship by shooting a one-over 72 in the first round. Johnson collected birdies on holes three, eight and 11. However, bogeys on holes six, nine, 16 and 18 negated what could have been a tremendous start.
Round two  saw Johnson shoot a round of 75, to put her five-over after the second day. Two birdies on  10 and 11 were cancelled out by a double bogey on number 14. Johnson also had bogeys on four other holes.
On Wednesday, Johnson could not manage to overcome the course, as she shot an eight-over 79. Johnson did not have a birdie on the day and bogeyed the last four holes she faced. Included in the scorecard was a double bogey on number 11.
The final round began with Johnson sitting at 13-over par. The course would still not relinquish for Johnson on Thursday, as she could only manage to shoot one better than the previous day.
Johnson’s last round of the tournament did not start well, as she bogeyed five of the first nine holes.
Johnson began the back nine by bogeying holes 10 and 11. She did regroup on the par five twelfth hole, as she was able score a birdie.
For the tournament, Johnson shot a total of 304, for a finish of 20 over par. She wound up tied for the twenty-third spot overall.
