The time to meet some of Louisiana’s legendary sports figures has arrived.
The Louisiana Sports Hall of Fame will kick off its Glory Road Tour this coming week. The meet and greet event will consist of six stops throughout the state, starting off with Lake Charles (Tuesday, Jan. 24), Shreveport (Tuesday, Jan. 31), Lafayette (Tuesday, Feb. 7), Baton Rouge (Thursday, Feb. 16), Houma (Thursday, March 2) and New Orleans (Thursday, March 9).
All six events will be held at Walk On’s Bistreaux & Bar locations. Fans will get the chance to get autographs and take pictures with well-known stars and Louisiana Sports Hall of Famers at each stop, which will also feature a panel discussion and Q&A.
“People will have the chance to interact and engage with our Hall of Famers in those markets,” Louisiana Sports Hall of Fame President Ronnie Rantz said. “We are going to have some Hall of Famers, some modern stars and possible future Hall of Famers.”
For those die-hard sports fans that reside in Evangeline and St. Landry Parishes, the two closest stops are of course Lake Charles and Lafayette. Both tour stops will feature plenty of star power.
Those scheduled to appear in Lake Charles are former LSU and NFL running backs Charles Alexander and Justin Vincent, and Cecchini family (often referred to as the Mannings of Lake Charles) as father Glen (longtime Barbe High baseball coach) and sons Gavin and Garin who both have played in the big leagues.
Those set to appear in Lafayette consist of former LSU star and three-time Super Bowl champion Kevin Faulk, former LSU basketball coach John Brady and former LSU star and current Houston Astros All-Star Will Harris.
Rantz said the response by the state’s sports stars has been overwhelmingly positive.
“It has been very good,” Rantz said. “Not everybody still lives in Louisiana but they all want to participate.”
The cost for a general admission ticket is $75, and that includes an all you can eat buffet and open bar. The proceeds of the tour stops go to helping fund the Louisiana Sports Hall of Fame in Natchitoches, and also place a spotlight on the museum and its foundation.
The tour will help shine a spotlight on the Hall of Fame.
“What I discovered is that a lot of people didn’t know that our Hall of Fame existed or where it was or what it was,” Louisiana Sports Hall of Fame President Ronnie Rantz said. “One of things to do with zero budget is publicize the Hall of Fame. You got to get creative in a lot of ways.”
