The streak is over for the Mamou Dixie Youth Super 10 All-Stars.
After winning both the sub-district tournament and the district tournament, Mamou fell in the final game of the South Regional tournament, despite a courageous effort to battle back out of the loser’s bracket.
Mamou began the tournament in unfamiliar territory, with a loss to Jackson Parish; something that they had not done but once all season.
In that game, Mamou trailed 11-0 going into the bottom of the fifth. The Green Machine began a tremendous comeback, scoring four runs in the fourth and five runs in the fifth to put a huge scare in their opponent.
However, Jackson Parish killed the rally and sent Mamou to the loser’s bracket.
The group of young players did not let the loss eat away at them. Mamou went on an incredible run, winning the next three games to get to force an if necessary game with Franklin.
In that run, Mamou wasted no time against Benton in game two, plating 10 runs in the first two innings to run away with an 11-1 win.
Game three saw Mamou hold DeQuincy scoreless in a 4-0 victory, to run their record to 2-1 in the tourney and keep their championship dreams alive.
In their next contest, Mamou kept the defensive pressure up by securing a 5-2 win over St. Mary’s Central.
The game started close, with the score tied at 1-1 after two innings of play. But, Mamou came alive in the bottom of the third to plate four runs.
Now, Mamou faced their toughest challenge of the tournament, as they would have to defeat Franklin twice because of their perfect 4-0 record to come away with a spot in Alexandria for chance at the state title.
Mamou showed all of the grit and determination of a championship caliber team, as they came away with a 5-2 win in the early contest, forcing a winner take all final game.
Unfortunately for Mamou, they ran out of steam, as Franklin took a 7-6 nail-biter to end the tremendous run for Mamou.
