The Ville Platte 8U softball all-stars followed up a great performance last weekend in Westlake, with an even better performance this past weekend as they took first place in the Eunice Invitational Tournament. The all-stars had to come from the loser’s bracket, but mustered enough energy and enthusiasm to defeat Mamou in the finals by the score of 11-4 in the championship game.
Ville Platte will play in Rayne this coming weekend. Dates and times of scheduled games were not available at press time. Here is a roundup of the tournament games played.

Ville Platte vs.
Mamou
The first pool game for Ville Platte pitted them against long time rival Mamou. Ville Platte jumped out to an 8-5 lead after two innings of play. However, Mamou blanked Ville Platte in the third inning in route to a 7-1 run to finish with a 12-9 victory.

Ville Platte vs.
Cajun Thunder
Ville Platte bounced back in their second pool game, earning a 13-5 win over Cajun Thunder. Ville Platte scored two or more runs in all four innings to take the victory.

Ville Platte vs.
Bayou Cleats
Ville Platte’s first bracket game was not much of a contest, as the all-stars hammered Bayou Cleats out of St. Landry parish 24-4. Ville Platte scored the maximum six runs in every inning but the second to run away with the win.

Ville Platte vs.
Cajun Thunder
The offensive onslaught continued in the second bracket game for Ville Platte, as they routed the Cajun Thunder 16-0. It took Ville Platte only four innings to put Cajun Thunder away, scoring enough runs to end the game without allowing their opponent the opportunity to bat in
the fourth inning.

Ville Platte vs.
Mamou
A second game against Mamou resulted in a 12-11 Ville Platte loss. Mamou lead 9-1 after two innings of play and 12-10 going into the bottom of the fifth. However, Ville Platte could only manage one run in their last at bat, to fall just short of tying the game. The loss put Ville Platte in the loser’s bracket, making them have to battle their way the rest of the tournament.

Ville Platte vs.
Bayou Cleats
A rematch against the St. Landry parish based Bayou Cleats went much the same for the Ville Platte all-stars. Ville Platte opened the offensive flood gates once again, scoring the six run maximum in the first two innings to cruise to a 19-7 win.

Ville Platte vs.
Mamou
For Ville Platte, the third time was the charm, as the blue machine faced off against Mamou in the championship contest. Ville Platte opened a 9-0 lead over their parish rivals en route to an 11-4 win. Mamou’s three run fourth was not enough to stop the game from becoming a run-rule contest. Destiny Lavigne went three for three for Ville Platte, including a double, to lead big blue to the tournament championship.
