Ville Platte softball All-Stars move ahead with good showings

The VPGSA seven-year old and eight-year old all-stars continue to much progress after both teams had good showings in their last tournament appearance.
Both squads took to the fields last past weekend in an effort to gain confidence toward the upcoming PONY Sectional Tournament being held this weekend in Ville Platte.
The eight-year old all-stars faced off against some steep competition and wound up placing fourth out of 15 teams.
In their first game, Ville Platte fought hard and rallied in the final inning, but could not overcome Scott in an 8-6 loss.
Ville Platte scored two runs in each of the second, fourth and fifth innings. However, Scott plated four runs in the first two innings to jump on top of Ville Platte.
The second game was better offensively for Ville Platte, as they cruised to a 17-2 win over the Sassy Slippers.
Ville Platte lit up the scoreboard for nine runs in the first two innings. The all-stars ended the game with a six run barrage in the fourth inning to put the game away.
The bats stayed hot for Ville Platte in game three, as the all-stars defeated Moss Bluff 13-3. Ville Platte spared no mercy, jumping out to a 6-0 lead after one inning of play. Moss Bluff scored their only three runs in the second inning.
A 10-0 blanking of Church Point was on tap for Ville Platte in game four. The young ladies scored in all three innings of the contest. Ville Platte moved out to a 4-0 lead after the first inning and added three runs apiece in the final two innings.
It was a hard fought battle for Ville Platte in game five. But, in the end the all-stars fell one run short, 11-10, to Church Point.
Ville Platte answered back with a huge 11-6 win over Rayne in game six. Ville Platte plated seven runs in the fifth inning to rally from a 6-4 deficit.
Game seven saw Ville Platte own Moss Bluff once again as they blasted their way to a 19-3 win, while the all-stars defeated Iowa 7-4.
Meanwhile the seven-year old all-stars, better known as the Red Hots showed that they belonged with the big girls after posting a 2-3 record against teams that are one-year older.
The Red Hots began the tournament with a close 9-6 loss to Moss Bluff. The Red Hots scored all of their runs in the first two innings, but could not muster any offense late in the game.
The Red Hots took out their frustrations on their next two opponents. In game two, the Red Hots bested Iota 7-4 being tied at 3-3 at the end of the first inning.
It was a nail-biter in game three, as the Red Hots held off a late rally by Eunice in a 12-11 win. The Red Hots led 3-1 after two innings of play and 9-5 after the third inning.
Both teams managed to plate three runs in the fourth inning, making the score 12-8. Eunice tried to make it interesting by scoring three runs in the fifth inning, but the Red Hots killed the momentum to seal the win.
The last two games were very different. The Red Hots lost to Scott 12-0 in game four, but almost pulled out a win over Moss Bluff in a 13-12 loss in game five.
