As spring arrives, allergy sufferers may be saying 'Achoo!'

By Katherine Miller

Spring is in the air, and for many people with seasonal allergies, “achoo!” may become a common saying.

With flower buds and blooming trees, and for millions of people, sneezing, congestion, and a runny nose, along with other symptoms, will occur.

The major culprit of these symptoms in the early spring is wind-blown pollen from trees, and in late spring, grasses are the problem.

The worst allergy symptoms occur during hot, dry, or windy days when pollen in the air is at it’s highest.

With a few tips provided by the Allergies Health Center, allergies sufferers are sure to find some, if not total, relief.

1. Keep pollen under control. This means washing bedding each week in hot water, and to wash your hair and shower before going to bed, since pollen can accumulate in hair and on the body.

2. Clean every surface. Wear a mask and gloves when cleaning, vacuuming, or painting to limit dust and chemical exposure. Vacuum at least twice a week.

3. Wash rugs. Limit throw rugs to reduce dust and mold. Make sure rugs are washable.

4. Keep indoor air clean. Keeping windows closed will reduce pollen, and change air conditioner filters frequently during this time of year.

5.Consider allergy medicine. Talk to your doctor about a seasonal allergy drug that may be appropriate for your symptoms.

Hopefully, with the help of these tips, noticeable changes in allergy symptoms should improve.
