Springtime-like weather means people are hitting the parks

CROWLEY – As the cold air leaves and the warmth of spring blankets the residents of Crowley, people are beginning to get out and enjoy the outdoors. The parks around town are finally beginning to see some activity after what is hopefully the last cold spell to hit Crowley this year.

“Boy the weather is nice,” says Holly Daigle as she relaxed on a bench with her friend, Trina Castille at Hoffpauir Park on Northern Ave. “I’ll probably be back over here when my kids get out of school but right now I’m enjoying this time for myself.”

“I don’t have any kids so I may just stay here until you get back,” Castille responded with a laugh.

People have been spending much more time in Crowley’s parks this week as is obvious by the increase in dog-walking, tank tops, and bicycles around town.

“I’m out here reading a book just about every day during spring and fall and right now the weather is perfect. I’m going to enjoy it for now because 90 degrees with 90 percent humidity is just around the corner,” said Candace Rollins of Crowley. “I think that summers in Louisiana are far worse than the winters so I’ll probably be back inside in a few weeks.”

In short, enjoy it while it lasts. Summers and falls have a habit of not lasting very long in the Bayou State, so it wouldn’t be wise to get too spoiled with this week’s wonderful weather.

However, this may be the perfect weekend for taking a camping trip or doing other outdoor-oriented activities.

“My husband and I may go down to Holly Beach this weekend and do some crabbing,” said Castille. “If the weather feels like this on the weekend it would be a shame to spend it indoors.”
