St. Edmund Elementary students

Fueled by a curious mind and an appetite for more information, several members of St. Edmund Elementary’s third-grade class embarked upon a project that would take them around the world and teach them a valuable lesson of diplomacy.

After researching and making flags representing countries from around the world, the group of students gathered their work and sent it on to the United Nations with a letter explaining their project.

To their surprise, a letter arrived last week from the United States Mission to the United Nations, thanking the students for their contribution. The letter is quoted stating, “You are to be commended for taking an active role in learning about the global community.”

The flags will be displayed at the United States Mission to the United Nations and the ten third-grade students received an autographed photo of Dr. Zalmay Khalilzad, the permanent U.S. Representative to the United Nations.
