St. Joes knocks out Lady Jays in 1-0 heartbreaker

PLAUCHEVILLE – The St. Edmund Lady Jays suffered their fourth one-run district loss Wednesday, dropping a 1-0 decision to the Lady Eagles of St. Joseph’s High.
The last time St. Eds played the Lady Eagles, St. Joes walked away with a 5-4 win after 13 innings.
St. Joes scored the sole run of the game in the bottom of the fifth inning, when Katie Mayeux singled to get on base, stole second, and scored on Cora LaCombe’s base hit.
Leah Andrus took the loss for the Lady Jays, giving up one earned run off of five hits and no walks. Andrus struck out three batters.
With the loss, the Lady Jays are now 1-4 in district; they wrap up district play Tuesday at False River Academy.
The Lady Eagles clinched first place in District 6-1A with a 5-0 record.
On Thursday evening, the Lady Jays travel to Port Barre for a nondistrict game, beginning at 4:30 p.m.
