St. MIchael students win top honors

CROWLEY – This year a number of St. Michael seventh graders were tapped by Duke University in their Academic Talent Program which qualified them to sit for the high school ACT or SAT test. 

Of the students nominated, eleven chose to take the ACT test.  St. Michael School was recently notified that five seventh grade students scored high enough to warrant state honors on the ACT. The criteria for state honors is scoring above a 21 or higher in any subtest of English, Math, Science or Reading. 

The following students will be recognized at a special ceremony at Northwestern University in Natchitoches on May 3rd.    Katherine Kirsch, daughter of Tim and Jamie Kirsch; Alec Beller, son of Bobby and Sheila Beller; Annie Sarver, daughter of Brent and Donna Sarver; Jenna Smith, daughter of Tony and Adrienne Smith; and Madison Swacker, daughter of David and Nicole Swacker.  

Myra Broussard, principal of St. Michael School, says she is very proud of these children who have done an outstanding job in their academic achievement.

“It is such a good experience for them and it will help them to prepare for their future and to further their recognition as far as college attendance is concerned,” Broussard said.

Duke TIP is an educational organization that identifies and helps to cultivate the talents of academically gifted youth. In approaching its third decade, the program has recognized almost two million students.
