Students prepare for a night of glamour
There are very few times in your life when you get to wear a truly glamorous, jaw-dropping dress. Why not make your prom night one of those times with a beautifully flattering, perfect prom dress?
Some of you probably have your prom dress shopping done, but for those of you who don’t, here are a few helpful tips:
-Begin your search very early and plan a budget.
-Try on a variety of dress styles until you find the one that fits your body type best.
-Once the dress is bought, it is shoe shopping time.
And last you must find the perfect jewelry and hair accessories to finish off that glamorous look you are trying to achieve.
Keep in mind, you don’t always have to go out and spend a fortune to look great.
You can borrow a dress from a friend or relative or you can even shop at thrift stores. You may be surprised at what you can find and at a price that will put a smile on your parent’s faces. Who knows, you might even be able to find matching shoes and accessories there as well.
When planning for such a large, important event, it is very easy to forget a few things. It helps to make yourself a check-list. That way you can check things off as they get done.
When making your list, be sure to add the dress shop’s store hours. You wouldn’t want to show up at the last minute just to find out that the store is only open a half day on Saturdays. That would be devastating, prom night and no dress! Second, add all prom night expenses to the list; pictures, eating, prom admission, etc. You will also need to add hair, makeup, and nail appointment times don’t be late for any appointments, other people have appointments scheduled for that day as well.
Remember to call the florist a couple of weeks ahead of prom day to order your date’s corsage/boutonniere. And also remember to go pick it up a day or two before prom to get that out of the way.
Girls can pack their purse the day before prom also. This will eliminate the chances of forgetting something important. Prom day will be somewhat hectic, so the less you leave to do on that day the better.
One of the most important things you must remember is that prom night is supposed to be fun, so let it!
The perfect make-up and hairstyle is essential for prom night
Before deciding on a makeup plan, be sure to consider both your prom dress and hairstyle. Clashing makeup colors and dress hues are a big no-no when it comes to prom makeup.
A coordinating makeup and prom dresses scheme is essential when attending any formal event. You don’t want to end up on your prom’s “What Was She Thinking?” list. Also, decide whether you would like to highlight your eyes or lips. Highlighting both eyes and mouth is a huge makeup mistake.
When trying to decide which attribute, think of the feature you are complimented on most. Do you have the full, pouty lips of Angelina Jolie, or the bright, gleaming eyes of Cameron Diaz? When making your final choice, remember to keep the makeup soft and subtle.
Prom makeup suggestions for the eyes involve a trendy runway style, sure to be hot for this prom season. To achieve this glamorous, top model look, use an eye shadow as liner, and smudge it towards the crease. Do this all the way around your eyes, both top and bottom. The most popular colors for this technique are purple, gold, and turquoise, these colors are also popular in prom dress trends.
Adding oomph to your pout is easy with just a few simple prom makeup suggestions. If you want to put focus on your lips, apply a red gloss. Glosses are a popular way to add natural shine to lips, while also supplying a hint of Hollywood-inspired dazzle. If you prefer to use regular lipstick, make sure to mix it with a clear gloss until you achieve the shine you desire.
For your prom hair styles you have two options either do it yourself or go to a professional.
Going to a professional means that you don’t have to worry about making a mistake, because I am sure they have done the style that you want many times before. Make sure that your instructions are clear when explaining your wanted hairstyle, otherwise you may end up with something you hate. It is best to take in a picture from a magazine or web site that show’s the look you are going for.
On your prom day, make sure you get to your hair stylist appointment several minutes early. Your stylist will have a lot of appointments to do that day, and if you are late they may not be able to fit you in to do your hair!
It is very important that you wear a button-up shirt, so that you don’t mess-up your gorgeous new do.
If you are going to do your hair yourself, make sure you experiment with different prom hair styles up to 4 weeks before the prom, then once you find a style you like practice practice and practice some more. Remember practice makes perfect..
Many magazines have how-to articles and pictures that you can refer to. Check your local library to see if they have back issues.
No matter who does your hair, make sure that if you are an active dancer you have enough pins in your hair to keep it in place. There is nothing worse than having your hair style ruined for the evening just from dancing.
Purses for prom are a must!
A stylish purse not only serves to keep all of your essential items with you and together; it can also be a fun addition to your prom outfit.
The most popular purse styles for formal events are the clutch and handbag. You will find many different purses in each of these styles that will add that final bit of fashionable flare to your outfit. However, keep these tips in mind while shopping:
A clutch is very cute and fashionable, but it does not have a handle, so one hand is always occupied with holding it. If you plan on doing a lot of dancing or want to have both hands free, consider checking your purse at the door or choosing a style with a handle.
Your prom purse does not have to exactly match the color of your dress. In fact, if you’d like to draw more attention to your dress and to yourself, look for a purse in a contrasting yet complementary color. For example, a silvery rhinestone purse with a black dress is very chic.
An evening purse is often much more extravagant than an everyday purse. When looking for your prom purse, feel free to choose a purse with plenty of extras (ribbons, feathers, jewels, etc.); this type of purse will be a perfect complement to your prom dress.
Remember to buy a purse large enough to hold your essential items. Your purse should have enough room to hold your I.D., some extra cash, your prom tickets, your cell phone, lip gloss, a small powder compact, and breath mints or gum.
Finding the right shoes
Once you have found the perfect prom shoes, make sure you break them in before prom night by wearing them around the house for an hour or so each day for a week.
Strappy or slip-on sandals are quite popular, and can be worn with most dresses.
Your best bet is to go with clear, silver or gold colored shoes. You just can’t go wrong with these colors.
For the ultimate comfort, ballet shoes will ensure that you don’t end up with sore feet by the end of the night! But they are only suitable with full, pouffe dresses they just don’t look right with the tight fitted ones. You could always bring them to wear during the dance, after all pictures have been taken.
