Team Sam holds on to first place in women’s league

Last week, Team Sam reached the triple digits in scoring after a 13-4 win over fourth-place Team Tupper in Week Nine of Eunice Ladies’ Tennis League play.
Week Seven matches, postponed due to inclement weather, have now been made up, with each team scoring eight points.
On Court One, team captain Daphney Sam and Nisha Sam scored a 6-1, 7-5 win over Team Tupper’s Bonnie Butler and Germaine Courville.
Cindy Turk and Ann Latiolais also scored a win for Team Sam with a 6-4, 6-1 victory over team captain Connie Tupper and Laricia Poullard on Court Two.
On Court Three, Team Sam’s Margaret Young and Janet Prudhomme scored took a 7-5, 6-1 victory over Martha Guempel and Joann DeRouen of Team Tupper.
Scoring a win for Team Tupper, Loretta Simon and Katie Young picked up a 6-2, 6-7, 6-2 split set win over Team Sam’s Blanche Fontenot and Liz Ortego on Court Four.
In the other match of the week, Team Manuel scored a narrow 9-8 win over third-place Team Richard.
A forfeit by Team Manuel gave Team Richard an easy win on Court One.
On Court Two, Team Richard’s Myra Miller and Ellen Myers won a 4-6, 6-3, 6-3 split set against Jeanine Kibodeaux and Kay Dietz of Team Manuel.
Team captain Cheryl Manuel and Lita LeJeune won a 6-1, 6-2 victory over Team Richard’s Amber Rougeau and Janice Brignac on Court Three.
On Court Four, Team Manuel’s Melissa Reynolds and Paula Frugé stunned Shelly Miller and Lynn Maybry of Team Richard 6-0, 6-1.
