Traffic lights absent from Parkerson Ave

CROWLEY – Many Crowley residents have been confused recently about the removal of the street lights at the intersections of 3rd St/Parkerson and 4th/Parkerson. The lights will not be replaced.

They were removed as part of the Historic Downtown Development Project will be replaced by two-way stop signs. There will also be “bulb-outs” before each stop which will let approaching motorists know to slow down when approaching the stops.

“The object is to keep traffic flowing at a reasonable pace,” said one city hall official. “We believe the removal of the lights will help with the flow of traffic, remember the speed limit is just 25 miles per hour.”

“All aspects of this project are designed to help stimulate our economic growth.”

Some residents have complained about the removal of the lights which had been in place for as long as some Crowley residents can remember.

“I used those lights to help me when I was backing out of my parking place along Parkerson,” said Molly Bertrand who was doing some shopping Thursday afternoon. “Sometimes you get blocked in and can’t see the traffic when you are backing up but I could always look back at the lights to see if the coming traffic was stopped.”

All residents, especially longtime Crowley natives who had grown used to the lights need to be aware of their absence there as to avoid any problems.
