Trojans beat Vermilion Catholic, tie with Port Barre

Sacred Heart and Port Barre continued their long-standing rivalry last Thursday when they met on the baseball diamond in Port Barre. The two platoons went head-to-head for seven innings until the darkness set and caused the game to be postponed. The Trojans also managed to pull a win against a very good Vermilion Catholic team last Wednesday. The 4-3 victory gave the Trojans some momentum going into their contest with the Red Devils the next day.
Against Port Barre, Jacob Ardoin started the game, but soon gave way to Seth LeBlanc who went two and one-third innings. Taylor Veillon came to the hill as well and went three full innings.
Sacred Heart fell behind in the second inning. A two-out double from Alex Aymond would later become the first run of the ball game. Brandon Deville’s single pushed Aymond across the dish.
The Trojans took the lead in the top of the third frame. Ian David and Brody Fontenot singled with one out. An out later, Derek Fontenot pushed both runners across the plate, making it a 2-1 ball game.
The Red Devils fired back. They grabbed two more runs in the bottom of the inning. A total of eight Red Devils came to the plate, but some good defense by the SHHS boys kept the game close. Three singles and two walks led the home team to regaining the lead.
The Trojans tied the game in the top of the fifth frame. A one-out single from Drake Fontenot got things started. When Ian David singled, and got caught in a rundown, Fontenot was able to score.
The Trojans took a 5-3 lead in the top of the seventh inning. Jacob Ardoin reached base on an error and LeBlanc did the same. A sacrifice fly from Stuart Schexnayder scored Ardoin and LeBlanc crossed the plate on a passed ball.
Port Barre tied the game up quickly in the bottom of the inning. A leadoff walk to Alex Olivier started things for the home team. Joby Thomassee came to the plate and got his only hit of the night. A two-run home run that knotted the game at 5-5.

The Trojans took a one-run win over the Eagles of Vermilion Catholic. Derek Fontenot got the win on the mound. He went all seven innings, giving up three hits, three runs and fanning four batters.
Sacred Heart found themselves down early. The Eagles got two runs in the top of the first inning when Josh Broussard and Drew LaBorde both scored on a single from Justin Broussard.
The Trojans knotted the game up in the bottom of the frame. Brody Fontenot singled and stole second base. Schexnayder (2-3, RBI) singled next, which allowed Fontenot to cross the pentagon. Schexnayder later scored on fielder’s choice from Jacob Ardoin.
Sacred Heart’s lead increased in the bottom of the third frame. Derek Fontenot and Ardoin began the inning with walks. A single from LeBlanc (2-2, BB) loaded the bases. A sacrifice fly from Taylor Veillon pushed Fontenot home. A walk to Drake Fontenot reloaded the bases and a walk to Ian David pushed Ardoin home.
Vermilion Catholic added one more run in the top of the sixth inning, but could not catch the Trojans.
The Trojans hosted Mamou yesterday, and travel to Ville Platte High today.
