Trojans picking up district victories, tournament wins

The Sacred Heart Trojans grabbed a few victories in District 6-2 competition recently. They defeated Mamou and Ville Platte and then picked up a non-district win over the Farmers of Farmerville in the Westminster Tournament.
The SHHS boys got a 5-0 victory over Mamou. Taylor Veillon got the win on the hill. He went all seven innings, fanning five batters and allowing just one hit. The shutout victory was a big win in the youngsters’ career.
The Trojans got two runs in the bottom of the first inning. Brody Fontenot reached base on an error and Stuart Schexnayder followed with a single. With one out, Jacob Ardoin came to the plate. Ardoin (2-3, HR, 3 RBIs) hit the first pitch he saw over the left field wall for a three-run home run.
Sacred Heart plated another run in the bottom of the fifth inning. Derek Fontenot singled and scored on a sacrifice fly from Taylor Veillon. The score was now 4-0 with the Trojans well in command. One more run crossed the plate in the sixth inning. Ian David walked and scored on a single from Derek Fontenot. Brandon Manuel was 1-3 with a double in the game.
Sacred Heart pounded Ville Platte 19-1 for another district win. The Trojans scored eight runs in the first inning, five in the second and capped off the game with a four-run fifth inning.
Brody Fontenot got the win on the hill in this game. Senior catcher Derek Fontenot was 5-5 at the plate to lead the Trojans. Brandon Manuel hit a two-RBI double in the contest. Brody Fontenot was 2-5 at the plate with 2 RBIs. Seth LeBlanc went 2-2 at the plate with a walk.
Sacred Heart scored three runs in the first inning and went on to win a game 4-3 over Farmerville in the Westminster Tournament. Stuart Schexnayder and Jacob Ardoin walked with one out and then Brandon Manuel drove a pitch over the outfield fence for a three-run home run.
The Farmers answered with a run in their half of the first inning, but Sacred Heart returned the favor in the second frame. Ian David was hit by a pitch and later scored after a bases loaded walk. The four runs would be enough for the Trojans to get the victory once the time limit had expired.
Derek Fontenot got the win on the hill. He fanned three batters in the contest and allowed three hits.
The SHHS boys picked up a 6-1 victory over the False River Bulldogs. Jon Fontenot got the win on the mound. He worked four innings and fanned four batters. He allowed just four hits and gave up only one run.
Brody Fontenot reached base on an error in the first inning. He scored on a double from Derek Fontenot. In the third inning, two more runs scored for the Trojans. Brandon Manuel walked and Taylor Veillon reached base on an error. The error allowed Manuel to cross the plate, making it a 2-0 ball game. Veillon later scored on a passed ball.
Three runs scored in the fourth inning for the local boys. Schexnayder led off the inning with a double to left center field. Derek Fontenot walked behind him to put runners in scoring position. A sacrifice fly from Jacob Ardoin pushed Schexnayder home. One out later, Seth LeBlanc walked. A double from Veillon scored both runners, making it 6-0 in the Trojans’ favor.
False River added a run before the contest ended, but it had no impact on the outcome of the ball game.
The Trojans took on St. Eds at the WCA tournament. They took a 4-3 victory over their old rivals. Brody Fontenot started the game on the bump but eventually gave way to Seth LeBlanc who put in one and two thirds of an inning. Brandon Manuel finished the game for the Trojans. He applied one inning of work.
Sacred Heart scored three runs in the third frame on two hits. Brody Fontenot led off the inning with a single and then swiped two bases. Two outs later, Ardoin and Manuel walked. A double from LeBlanc unloaded the bases, making it a 3-0 contest.
Jacob Fontenot singled and scored on a double from Brody Fontenot in the fourth frame. The Blue Jays pushed for a tie ball game in their final at bat. They scored three runs, but could not get the fourth run across the plate.
