VFW host annual Americanism Awards
The V.F.W. Post 8971 and Ladies Auxiliary each year host and sponsor an Americanism essay contest for Eunice students.
Students from all Eunice elementary, junior high and high schools enter and participate in the contest.
First,-second-and third- place winners were awarded for their creativity and originality of the essays and drawings. They received savings bonds, trophies, and plaques.
The special awards ceremony took place on April 16 at the Eunice V.F.W. Hall. The V.F.W. Post and Ladies Auxiliary members were present and awarded each student. Those included: Al Courville, Post Commander; Bonita Briscoe, Auxiliary chairperson; Chick Dupre, Rodney Manuel, post chairman of Americanism and Voice of Democracy. Special guests included Laura Lombas, administrative assistant at Glendale Elementary and Lakesha Miller, principal at Eunice Junior High School.
A meal was provided at the conclusion for all parents and students.
Students winning first place receives $100 savings bond; second place a $75 bond; and third place is awarded with a $50 savings bond. Students also received trophies.

Two high school scholarships of $1000 each were awarded to two high school seniors. Ethan Perrodin, a senior at Eunice High School, received a scholarship from the V.F.W. and Quintin Arnaud, a senior at St. Edmund High School, received the other. Each year the V.F.W. awards two scholarships from senior applicants from both Eunice high schools.
