Students from Ville Platte High School attended the 88th Annual Louisiana FFA Convention and Expo from June 6 -9 in Monroe.
While there they proudly represented their school by attending leadership and personal growth workshops tha, according to a press release, “focused on teamwork, Ag Careers, college readiness, and hunger relief.”
Harley Fontenot, Elizabeth McDaniel, and Tamra Seraile each earned a Margaret Mayeaux Blue Jacket. The press release stated, these students “were recognized for outstanding service and educational achievements earned throughout the 2016-2017 academic year.”
The club under advisor Natalie Guillory was named a Superior Bronze Emblem Chapter due in part to Gabe Fontenot and Harley Fontenot’s hard work in livestock exhibition.
“Gabe, a fourth year member and participant of the program exhibited Brahman Influence Commercial Heifers for three years, and added a Beefmaster bull to his project work during his senior year,” the press release stated. “Harley’s livestock projects began before entering high school; however, for her freshman year in the FFA Exhibition Project she began with a Braunvieh bull. She plans on expanding her show projects as she advances further into high school. Harley is also serving as the Evangeline Parish Cattleman’s Queen, representing beef industry supporters and cattle producers within her parish.”
Gabe Fontenot also served as a voting delegate at the convention along with fellow Bulldogs Darious Ceaser and Morgan McDaniel.
This year was the last in a four year run where the convention was held in Monroe. It welcomed more than 1,400 members from FFA chapters around the state.
