On July 18, 2017, the Ville Platte Police Department made two arrests.
The first involved the use of counterfeit money at a local business on East Main Street.
In a press release from Police Chief Neil Lartigue, it stated that upon arrival at the local business, “officers learned that a black male had given the cashier a counterfeit fifty dollar bill to make his purchase.”
According to the release, 23-year-old Kondwani Malveaux, of Ville Platte, was arrested for this crime and charged with monetary instrument abuse.
Malveaux was booked into the Ville Platte City Jail on a $25,000.00 bond set by Judge Gary Ortego.
In the release, the chief reminds business owners to pay close attention when accepting money for purchases.
Chief Lartigue stated, “Counterfeit money is circulating and paying close attention could prevent you from being a victim and also help catch those responsible as they try to use counterfeit money.”
The second arrest made that day involved a suspect, who was identified as Tara Soileau, “that was wanted on a warrant from the City Marshal’s Office.”
In a release form Chief Lartigue, it states that “while the suspect was being arrested on the outstanding warrant, narcotics and paraphernalia were found on her person.”
The 30-year-old was arrested on the outstanding warrant and faces charges of two counts of possession of schedule II controlled dangerous substance, violation of a controlled dangerous substance (CDS) and possession of drug paraphernalia.
Soileau was booked into the city jail, and her bond was set at $15,000.00.
