VPPD searching for missing man

The Ville Platte Police Department is asking the community for assistance in locating a local resident who has been missing since Monday, May 5.

Sgt. Joseph “Plywood” Fontenot said family members reported Wendell Hayes, a 49-year-old black male, missing Wednesday, May 21. The family has no description of the clothing Hayes was wearing when he disappeared or his direction of travel.

Hayes does have a mental illness, according to Fontenot. He described Hayes as five-feet, nine-inches in height and weighing approximately 218 pounds. He has brown eyes.

“If located or if you have any information on Hayes, please call the department at 363-1313,” Sgt. Fontenot said.
