Young Trojans honored for hard work

Sacred Heart Elementary (SHE) honored its athletes recently with a banquet and ceremony.

All of the athletes earned their participation awards and they were treated to a special guest speaker. Derrick LeBlanc works at LSU in the strength and conditioning department. He is a native of Breaux Bridge and played football at Northwestern University. He received his bachelors degree in business at NSU. Then he went on to get his masters in Sports Administration at LSU.

His coaching experience goes from high school to college. He was at Breaux Bridge High for two years before becoming a graduate assistant at LSU. He did three years at Henderson State University, a year at Arkansas Tech and two years at Missouri State. He moved back to LSU earlier this year. LeBlanc is also part of a massive coaches group that puts on an offensive and defensive lineman camp at Nicholls State University each summer. The group features college coaches, high school coaches and a few NFL coaches.

A few major awards were given on this day. The Kenneth Launey Memorial Award went to eighth grade student Wesley Fontenot. The ACSAA Leadership Award went to Jacob Bordelon. This award is voted on by coaches and teammates.
