Bulldogs honored for an amazing year
By: Lance Reed
The Ville Platte High athletes were honored last Thursday night by the faculty, administration and boosters for all of their hard work over the 2010-11 school year. In nearly every sport, the VPHS sports teams were very competitive and made it to the post-season.
In basketball, the VPHS girls made it to the top of the mountain. They were crowned the state runner-up and etched their names in history. In a very flattering note, the VPHS faculty provided the VPHS Lady Bulldogs with miniature replicas of the Class 2A State-Runner-Up trophy. Each member of the team and their coaches were able to take a replica home.
The VPHS boys also made it to the top of the mountain. They came up short and fell in the semi-finals of the Top 28 Basketball Tournament.
The football team had a great year, nearly going undefeated and making it to the post-season. The track and cross country teams also saw lots of success with district titles and regional births. Megan Moore earned the state runner-up in the 200-meter run.
The coaches of each sport distributed various awards to the athletes that earned them in their respective sports. This was done after guest speaker Darnell Kimmee spoke to the assembled gathering. Kimmee spoke about having a plan in life and an outlook. He also mentioned the fact that hard work and dedication of athletes is important all the time, not just when coaches expect it to happen.
During Kimmee’s talk, BBQ plates were distributed to all of those in attendance along with water and cold drinks. The administration and athletic staff was very thankful for the donations that were given at the event.
