LINDA ALFRED JACK

Funeral services will be held for Linda Alfred Jack, 59, of Ville Platte, at Antioch Baptist Church in Ville Platte at 11 a.m., Saturday, June 21. Burial will follow in the St. Paul Cemetery.

Mrs. Jack died Thursday, June 12, 2008, at Ville Platte Medical Center.

Survivors include her husband, Rev. Leroy Jack Jr. of Ville Platte; four sons, David Ben of Missouri City, Texas, and Jonathon Ben, Reginald Ben and Gemini Ceasar Jack, all of Ville Platte; two daughters, Delain Jack of Eunice and Wendy Jack of Mamou; three sisters, Willia Mae Cullivan and Lena R. Johnson, both of Ville Platte, and Cindy Guillory of Houston, Texas; one brother, Henry L. Alfred of Ville Platte; 13 grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews friends and her Disciple Baptist Church family.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Ben Sr. and Evangeline Alfred; three sisters, Rose Mary Alfred, Sandra Alfred and Linda Kaye Alfred; and two brothers, Ben Alfred Jr. and Wilson Alfred.

Rev. Eradley Ben Sr. will officiate.

JEWEL RAYFORD WEST

April 7, 1932 - June 17, 2008

PINE PRAIRIE - Funeral services will be held for Jewel Rayford West, 76, of Upper Pine Prairie, at Friendship Baptist Church in Pine Prairie at 11 a.m., today, June 19. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

Mr. West died Tuesday, June 17, 2008, at Ville Platte Medical Center. He was a deacon of Friendship Baptist Church, where he cooked for the men’s brotherhood. He also cooked for the local nursing home. He loved to hunt deer, fish and camp. He was dearly loved by family, friends and the community, and he will be greatly missed by all who knew him.

Survivors include his loving wife, Geraldine Bertrand West of upper Pine Prairie; Charles R. West of Lafayette; two daughters, Patricia W. Murphy and her husband, Joe, of Walker and Laura Jeneen Boudle of Denham Springs; three grandchildren, Joshua A. Murphy and his wife, Cara, Ashley N. Boudle and Jordan C. Boudle; and two sisters, Vera W. Ricketts of Ball and Virgie W. Frank and her husband, Edwin, of Pineville.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Charlie Lee and Alma Ellis West; and one brother, Lionel West.

Revs. Barry Trindle and Kevin West will officiate.

JOY FONTENOT

Funeral services were held for Joy Fontenot, 65, of Ville Platte, at Our Lady Queen of All Saints Catholic Church in Ville Platte at 11 a.m., Tuesday, June 17. Burial followed in the Gate of Heaven Cemetery.

Ms. Fontenot died Sunday, June 15, 2008, at Ville Platte Medical Center. She was a devoted wife and loving mother and grandmother. Her name suited her because she was truly a “joy.” She was Homecoming Queen at VPHS in 1960, and voted Most Wittiest in her class. A former pink lady, she was a member of the Glory Girls Club, enjoyed golfing and sewing and taught an exercise class at Village de Memoire.

Survivors include her husband of 36 years on 6-16-08, Darnel Fontenot of Ville Platte; her mother, Corina Mae Brignac of Ville Platte; four sons, Philip Deville and his wife, Patricia, of Angleton, Texas, and Steve Fontenot and his wife, Connie, Joey Fontenot and his wife, Janice, and Shannon Fontenot and his wife, Tammy, all of Ville Platte; two daughters, Marla Deville Hadley and her husband, Robert, of Lake Jackson and Debra K. Soileau and her husband, Ted, of Mamou; one brother, Terry Hebert of San Diego, California; one sister, Mona H. Fontenot and her husband, Karl, of Baton Rouge; many nieces and nephews; 16 grandchildren, Jacob Hadley, Sonya, Clinton and Warren Deville, Jacques Soileau, Beth Vidrine, Ross and Casey Fontenot, Lindsey, Brittany, Alivia and Wyatt Fontenot, Brandon, Lacey and Travis Fontenot and Paula LaHaye; and five great-grandchildren, Trey and Charlie Soileau, Elijah Fontenot, Taylor Edwards and Ethan LaHaye,

She was preceded in death by her father, Wilson Hebert; one grandson, Ted Soileau Jr.; and one great-grandson, Tyson Soileau.

LILLY TATE MOREAU

September 6, 1916 - June 15, 2008

Funeral services were held for Lilly Tate Moreau, 91, of Jennings, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Ville Platte at 10 a.m., Tuesday, June 17. Burial followed in the church cemetery.

A native of Ville Platte, Ms. Moreau died at 3:23 p.m., Sunday, June 15, 2008, at Jennings Hospital.

Survivors include one son, John Winston Smith Sr. and his wife, Shirley, of Jennings; one daughter in law, Rose Nelams of Leonville; nine grandchildren, Ernie, Joey, Kim, Tammy, Dean, Frankie, Chad, Darren and Faylyn; 21 great-grandchildren; and nine great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Edmond and Cora Tate; two sons, Ivan Ray Smith and Bill Nelams; her husband, Ivy Moreau; two grandchildren, John Winston Smith Jr. and Philip Ardoin; and one great-grandchild, Johnathon Chamberline.

Ms. Moore died Sunday, June 15, 2008, at Savoy Medical Center in Mamou.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Sigmon Cameron and Orelia Larnette; one son, Roy Cameron; and one sister, Maxie Hall.

May 17, 1916 - June 15, 2008

MAMOU - Funeral services were held for Mrs. Horace (Vernice) Reed, 92, of Mamou, the former Vernice Chapman, at St. Ann’s Catholic Church in Mamou at 1 p.m., Tuesday, June 17. Burial followed in the New St. Ann’s Cemetery.

Ms. Reed died Sunday, June 15, 2008, at Savoy Medical Center in Mamou. She was a loving mother, sister and grandmother.

Survivors include four daughters, Priscilla Redman of Houston, Texas, Verona Vidrine and her husband, Patrick, of Patterson, Gloria Stephenson and her husband, Jimmy, of Oakdale and Kaye LaCoste and her husband, Warren, of Lafayette; one sister, Lee Belle Bordelon of Mamou; nine grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-granddaughter.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Horace Reed; her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Louis Chapman; and one son-in-law, Paul Redman.

December 9, 1928 - June 16, 2008

ORANGE, Texas - Funeral services will be held for Kitty Elizabeth Hankins, 79, of Orange, Texas, at the Claybar Funeral Home Chapel in Orange, Texas, at 10 a.m., Friday, June 20. Burial will follow in the Hillcrest Memorial Gardens.

A life-long resident of Orange, Texas, Ms. Hankins died Monday, June 16, 2008, at Savoy Medical Center in Mamou. She worked in the food service industry for many years.

Survivors include four daughters, Shirley Menier of Mamou, Liz Bearden and her husband, Jim Sharon, of Orange, Texas, Becky Milford of Houston, Texas, and Suzy Patterson and her husband, Buddy, of Nederland, Texas; four sons, John Davis and his wife, Carolyn, of Orange, Texas, Sam Anderson Jr. and his wife, Connie, of Jacksonville, Florida, Benny Kent Anderson and his wife, Michelle, of Bridge City, Texas, and Walter Wayne Anderson of Nederland, Texas; two sisters, Betty Jean Roberts of California and Beatrice Vercher of Orange, Texas; one brother, Perry Bonnin Jr. of Deweyville, Texas; and many grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Benjamin and Jessie Stockman Berwick; and her husband, John Howard Hankins.

Serving as pallbearers will be Skeet Fontenot, Joshua Anderson, Benny Anderson, Sam Anderson, Wayne Anderson and John Davis.

Serving as honorary pallbearers will be Shirley Menier and Jim Sharon Beardon.

Rev. Bruce McGraw will officiate.
