Richelieu-Leger family reunion this Saturday

The Fifth Biannual Reunion of the Richelieu-Leger Family Association, Inc. will be held on Saturday, February 21 at the Vermilion Youth Center, located at 301 A. A. Comeaux Memorial Drive in Abbeville. This is the same location as the 2005 and 2007 reunions.

Doors will open at 9:00 a.m. for families to register, mingle, meet young and old relatives from across the country and to learn more about their family history. Activities are planned throughout the day until 4:00 p.m.

Membership in the association is not necessary to attend the reunion. If you know someone who is not a member, but would like to attend, bring them along. Families or individuals who would like to join the association, or renew their membership, may do so at the registration table at the reunion. Annual dues are $15 per household and $10 for an individual. Lifetime membership ($150) is available if anyone is interested. In addition to free admission to family reunions, membership provides the household with a copy of the entire current Leger History series, future additions of the series, semiannual association newsletters and access to family genealogy.

Admission to the reunion for non-members is $5 per person, or $10 per household (includes head of household, spouse, and children living in the same household) and a covered-dish item. Association members who have paid their 2009 dues only need a covered-dish item. Admission for one guest of any member is $5.

Each household is asked to bring a covered dish (meat, vegetable, salad other sides, bread, dessert, etc.) to be placed on the buffet tables and shared with the group, and drinks for their immediate family. Dishes should be marked with the name of the item. If the container and serving utensils for the covered dish are not disposable, the name of the owner should also be marked on the item and individuals should pick up their containers before leaving. Plates, cups, eating utensils, napkins, water and ice will be provided by the association.

In addition to the covered-dish luncheon, there will be music provided by the band, “Jaime Ca Comme Ca (I Like it Like That)” along with a dance contest. Registration for the dance contest can be done at the registration table. Leger t-shirts and cookbooks will be available for sale and several door prizes will be awarded during the day.

The Genealogy Committee will be onhand throughout the day with computers containing the Leger database to provide information about the Leger family roots and to assist anyone wishing to research their family history. If you have any family genealogical information to add to the database, please bring copies of the information to be given to the committee. Everyone is also encouraged to bring family pictures of ancestors to be placed in the archival file. An approximate date of the picture and names of individuals in the picture should be indicated on the back of the photo.

Make plans to attend and bring the entire family. Good company, good music, good food -- what more could anyone ask for in one day and all in one building! Hope to see you there.
