A memorial Mass is scheduled Thursday for Jean Fontenot Pucheu, widow of a long-time Eunice city attorney and mother of the current one, who died July 7. Arrangements are under direction of Quirk & Son.

St. Martinville – The St. Martin Sheriff's Office reported that shortly after midnight on July 6, an armed robbery occurred at the LeVideo Store located at 1693 Mills Highway, La. 94, near Breaux Bridge.

In an unexpected move to many in attendance, a Lafayette management firm attended the first regular meeting of the Vermilion Parish Police Jury for July with the intention to make a proposal to lease Abbeville General Hospital.

For the upcoming school year, there will be a few changes in the 2008-2009 Vermilion Parish School Board Student/Parent Handbook.

Four of the biggest changes will deal with cell phones, graduations, Teachers’ Bill of Rights and colored contact lenses.

The Abbeville Police Department is searching for a man who was caught on video, taking a large air conditioner unit out of the window in a home and hauling it off on a dolly.

On June 26, Ivan Lopez, was caught on video removing an AC from a home on South Lyman.

With the recent hullabaloo and confusion about boards and commissions related to the ethics reform in the state, another change has been handed down to government entities, boards and commissions concerning the procedure to amend agendas.
