Despite the baby boomer bubble that’s just starting to hit retirement age, Social Security Public Affairs Specialist Rose Fontenot said that the program should be safe for the next four decades, and is confident that lawmakers will find a way to save the program.

Penalty is fair

Taxpayers and parish government officials should be vigilant to an issue under consideration by the state Supreme Court that would take away the ability of local governments to impose a penalty on delinquent property taxes.

The same thing that is wrong with legislators raising their pay six months after taking office is wrong with Mayor Bob Morris’s proposal to increase his salary $12,000 and legislative bills raising Public Service Commissioners’ ($30,000) and assessors’ ($10,000 for many of them) pay.

Pay raises should be effective with the start of new terms, period.

We must have missed Eric LaFleur’s speech in which he said he would seek a pay raise if promoted from the Louisiana House to the Senate last fall.

The home of Leisa Comeaux of Robert’s Cove was the setting for a bridal shower honoring Tabitha Lynette Hebert, bride-elect of Dean Francis Jude Landry. The shower was held on June 14.

The couple will exchange vows on July 19 at St. Edmond Catholic Church in Lafayette.

The creators of Nintendo’s new Wii Fit gaming system didn’t design it for physical therapy and rehabilitation uses, but maybe they should have.

A cocktail party celebrating the engagement of Claire Marie Leleux and Thomas James Beadle, Jr., M.D. of New Orleans was held at 7 p.m. on Saturday, June 7 at the Beauvoir home of Edmund and Cheryl Habetz.

I hope everyone has been watching the third season of the HGTV Design Star competition that I spoke of a couple of weeks ago.

For the last two Sundays I have been glued to my TV set at exactly 8 p.m., not wanting to missed a minute of the action.

A bridal shower honoring Amy E. Richard of Crowley, bride-elect of Jarid C. Theriot of Broussard, was held on Saturday, June 7 at the home of Nadine R. Wilks of Rayne.

The bride-elect is the daughter of Greg and Debbie Richard of Crowley.
